Spotify acquires podcast discovery specialists Podz!


Podcasts are all the craze, but podcast discovery is a hurdle. Today, Spotify declared its purchase of Podz, a startup working to resolve the difficulty of podcast discovery.

Spotify has obtained Podz, a startup whose technology creates presurvey clips of podcasts, the streaming platform has announced. Unlike other co-operations, podcasters can apply to produce clips manually.

According to TechCrunch, Podz automates discovering significant times from events using machine learning with over 100,000 hours of audio.The acquisition intends to develop podcast discovery, allowing users to browse small clips, preferably 30-minute plus podcast episodes.

Spotify says this will make it “more comfortable for audiences to find the content they want to hear to, and for producers to be recognized and create a fan base.” Podz says that listeners on its program typically support up to 30 podcasts, up from an aggregate of seven.

The acquisition supports Spotify’s subscription podcasting news, in which it would provide preferred associates to charge for access to their content. However, Spotify does not intends on using its 5 percent cut of subscription revenue until 2023.

It’ll have an immediate financial influence to support its audiences to discover and help as many podcasts as possible, mainly since it’s now battling with Apple Podcasts’ in-app subscriptions, which launched this week.

Spotify says it intends to unite Podz’sPodz’s technology into its program and that some of the issues should be evident before the end of the year.

“At Spotify, we are investing in building and scaling the world’s best (and most personalized) podcast discovery experience,” the company said. “We believe that Podz’ technology will complement and accelerate Spotify’s focused efforts to drive discovery, deliver listeners the right content at the right time, and accelerate the growth of the category worldwide.”

Since podcasts typically higher than 30 minutes long, it’s challenging for audiences to scan current programs — hearing an episode of a podcast isn’t as simple as trying out a number by an anonymous artist.

So, Podz manifested what it called “the first audio newsfeed,” bestowing users with 60-second clips from numerous productions. Podcasters often use Headliner to design hooks to increase their social media accounts’ popularity, and Podz supports the same idea.

But alternatively, podcasters manually choose how to develop their show. Podz selects a clip using its machine learning model, trained on more than 100,000 hours of audio in deliberation with columnists and audio editors.
