Stephen King Movies: Let’s look back to the epic movies by the legend Stephen King!

As the headline says, Stephen King is surely a legend. The Lord of horror and supernatural fiction, King has devoted his life to entertaining us in every genre. Stephen King has given us some of the epic suspense, crime, sci-fi, and fantasy stories. Although he has primarily worked as an author, we wouldn’t have seen some of the epic movies if not for King’s stories. So today, we are going to talk about movies by Stephen King, which made our life thrilling and entertaining. Let’s go!

The Shining (1980)

Stephen King is a horror legend, hence we cannot go without mentioning ‘The Shining’. This epic 1980 horror film will send chills down your spine. It is a psychological horror film based on Stephen King’s novel. The story is set in a remote hotel built on a burial ground. The Shining revolves around an aspiring writer Jack Torrance, who is recruited at the hotel as a caretaker. Certainly, Jack’s son Danny has gifted psychic abilities. As a result, he becomes capable of looking into the hotel’s horrific past.

Besides the film, Stephen King’s novel The Shining has been adapted to a TV mini-series, opera and a stage play too. Moreover, the film ‘The Shining’ has received a Saturn Award.

It and It Chapter Two

‘It’ and it’s sequel ‘It Chapter Two’, both are based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel. The story revolves around seven children living in Maine. Certainly, they are lured by a clown known as Pennywise, living in the drain. It is an ancient cosmic evil, who preys upon kids of Maine every 27 years.

The story, acting, direction, everything was critically acclaimed. Moreover, the film has won MTV Movie & TV Award and IGN Awards. Above all, various media outlets such as Vanity Fair and IndieWire have considered ‘It’ as an Oscar contender. Clearly, ‘It’ and ‘It Chapter Two’ are counted in the list of most scary movies of all time.

Maximum Overdrive (1986)

Maximum Overdrive is special as Stephen King has not only given it’s story, but has worked as the director in it. Although it’s a horror film, it has a comic angle to it as well. Certainly, Maximum Overdrive is known to have black humor elements. In the movie, a comet sends machines on earth that starts a homicidal rampant. However, the film got mixed reviews from the critics. But if you want to experience Stephen’s art, Maximum Overdrive should be on your list.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

If you want to try Stephen’s story but in a different genre, you must watch ‘The Shawshank Redemption’. This American legendary drama film is based on King’s “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”. Certainly, the film  has been extremely popular even today. It’s story revolves around a banker Andy, who is sentenced to Shawshank State Penitentiary. It depicts how Andy works his way to freedom by cleverly escaping the jail. The story is not just simply a story, but a life lesson.

Above all, the movie has received positive reviews. Being an epic story, The Shawshank Redemption earned 7 Academy Awards nominations.
