TikTok Tests New Direct Tipping Feature with Some Selected Creators!

The trend-making app TikTok is testing a new tipping feature on the platform. As per the feature, the creators will be allowed to accept money from their fans. In other words, the TikTok users will be enabled to tip the creators on their profiles directly.

Globally famous video sharing and entertainment app is testing the new feature with a few selected TikTok creators. The feature was first noticed by a TikTok creator named Jera Bean, who posted a video about the new feature. The news was then also highlighted by social media consultant Matt Navarra via Twitter.

Finally, the platform officially confirmed the news and stated that the feature is currently being tested in collaboration with some selected creators on TikTok. TikTok confirmed that the feature is a part of a limited test that will only be available on the platform for the time being. It has not been made broadly available yet.

Talking to Tech Crunch, a tech news outlet, a TikTok spokesperson stated, “We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience.”

According to the video shared by Jera Bean in which she showcased the news Tips feature via her own creator account, the feature is available in the settings and on the screen where TikTok details the requirements.  The reports say that the selected TikTok creators who are part of this test can apply for the feature only if they have at least 100,000 followers and are in good standing. The creator can activate the feature by submitting an explanation.

Once the application is submitted by the TikTok creator for activation for the service, they will be notified when their account gets approved for the feature. As a result, the TikTok creators that the platform has approved will be given a new ‘Tips’ button on their creator profile. With that button or feature, the TikTok users can use it to send direct tips or make direct payments to the creators.

As per the Tips page on TikTok, the money being paid to the creators will go to them only, and the platform is not taking a cut of it. However, it is still unknown if the platform plans to make its cut out of the creator’s payments in the future.

In order to make a tip, the users are required to be the age of 18 or above. However, it is not clear yet if the user needs the creator’s follower to make the tip. For now, the new TikTok feature is being tested on a limited basis, and it will remain that way for the time being.
